Animation Studio Marketing
An animation studio is the kind of place that everyone dreams
of working at but no one really wants to invest in. The reason
is that it is hard to make money in an animation studio. Here
are a few marketing tips to help the coolest profession in the
world survive and even prosper. Like any business, marketing is
key in being successful. The best animations studios play on
their strengths, use humor and class, and generally have a good
web presence.
Every animation studio has something they are really good at
and something that they can't do at all. Play up your strengths.
Let people know what you can do, and let them know that you can
do it well. If you are a genius with adobe or you know how to
draw killer flash cartoons let that be known. Produce examples
of your work, or better yet start a project to show off your
work. A good example of this is cartoon solutions animation
studio, which helped make starwarsspoof.com. Just remember that
this is your time to show off.
Being funny gets a quick buck, being classy takes along time
but being both funny and classy gets loyal market share. An
animation studio that seeks to win its audience, rather that
laugh them to death, will still be around in twenty years. An
excellent example of this is the Pixar Animation studio. They
sought to give their viewer an emotional experience by taking
them on a journey. The result is a long lasting memory of good
times when their name is mentioned. Use humor, but use it
wisely. Remember there are other emotions that an audience
should feel too.
Having a good web presence is a great way for almost any
animation studio to get started and stay alive. However, just
simply having a website is not enough. You have to work with the
people who visit your site to turn them into buyers. One of the
easiest ways and animation studio can do is by offering a
service on their website. Offer tutorials, sell
shirts, do what
ever it takes, but have a very easy way that people can contact
you to hire you for your services. A good example of this type
of animation studio promotion is again cartoon solutions. They
sell character packs on their website. These reusable packs
allow user to make their own animations and they promote their
services.
If you are starting an animation studio think small and
diverse at first. Be willing to take on any project that you can
to get the experience, but more importantly to get your name
known. You may also have to use a different business model at
first. You might just want to run a simple affiliate program
through your website. You might want to offer cheap standardized
design for flyers. Use your imagination because few people will
be able to get paid directly for their work right at first. As
you work you will find your nitch; that thing that you can do
better than anyone else. As you find this exploit it. Position
yourself as the only person a client should trust to do that
thing.
An animation studio is a hard thing to make profitable, but
the people who use their creativity not only for their work but
also their business will succeed. Just remember that a
successful animation studio will play on its strengths, play on
all of the viewer emotions and have a strong web presence. These
ideas are not only ment for animation studios but also for Illustration artists, computer animators and any other
company that is in entertainment production.
