Atkins Diet: Risks and Benefits
The high rising Obesity Epidemic has attained an exponential rate of growth in the past few years. Comprehending the situation and the benefits associated with it, multiple solutions have been developed for the overweight community. The solutions have ranged from Weight Loss programs, exercise and aerobics classes, and drug pills to Diet plans.
Of these, the diet plans have gained gradual & steady popularity owing to their trendy combination of foods as well as the mass awareness about them.
Amongst the several prominent diet plans, Atkins Diet has emerged as an effective diet with many people using it in their daily lives. Atkins is a high protein, low carbohydrate weight-loss diet.
Although it received criticism from some experts, today it is a part of efforts and plans of many people who are aiming towards weight loss.
The subject of Atkins’ efficacy is still debated.
According to Neal Barnard, MD of the Physicians Commission for Responsible Medicine in Washington, “Low-carb diets have been linked to increased frequency of colon cancer, formation of kidney stones, kidney disease, and even osteoporosis.”
“Eating meat is direct invitation to the dangers of this kind of diet. It increases the risk of colon cancer for the people who eat meat daily” he adds.
This could result in the problems related to kidneys.
According to Physician’s Committee for Responsible Medicine, “Atkins diet increases the risk of chronic diseases and health problems.”
People have also reported headaches due to coffee intake as specified in the diet plan. They also found that having the same breakfast - egg and bacon – daily; can be quite annoying and irritating.
In other words, this low-carb diet is associated to deeply-limited eating options.
The drawbacks are compensated by
the volume of the diet benefits, though.
Studies have confirmed that a low-carb diet helps reduce weight significantly and do not affect your heart as it had been believed in the past.
I have seen many overweight people who used this low-carb diet and reduced around 20 pounds in a six-month period. The reason why this diet is so popular in comparison of other diets is rooted in the fact that you do not feel hungry & your appetite is under control which consequently makes it easier for you to follow the diet and achieve results in time.
A low-carb diet also aids in diabetes prevention due to the insulin production.
You must always remember that the diet plans simply offers you an approach to weight loss and the results you may have achieved are not permanent.
With pros and cons of the Atkins Diet now clear in front of you, a process should be structured by YOU, considering your physiological requirements. It is extremely important to understand & differentiate between your short-term & long-term objectives while working out for weight loss.
Always keep in mind that a good diet plan must be combined with a regular exercise regimen that should be followed sincerely. In addition, a positive outlook towards self-image & your life significantly boosts up your efforts.
Last but not the least; do consult your physician in case of any doubts or for identifying the best possible solutions to your problems.
