6 Ways To Use an Area Rug
Area rugs are a powerful tool to changing the look of your room
or adding the finishing touches. No matter how small your budget
is you are certain to be able to afford an area rug. They are
affordable and available and carpet dealers and department
stores. The variety is endless and you are certain to find the
right area rug for the job. Here are 6 ways to use an area rug
in your home.
1. Save Carpet In Children's Room
Kids can be hard on their carpet in their rooms and carpet is
so expensive to replace. Using an area rug you can accomplish a
few things. You can save wear and tear and staining of the
carpet. You can add extra cushioning to the floor area keeping
it warmer and comfortable. And you can let the kids have some
fun and participate in decorating their room. You can even
choose a theme and give their entire room a new look.
2. Accent On Hardwood Floors
Hardwood floors have made a big comeback in the past few years.
And they are beautiful! But too much can be a bit overwhelming,
and they don't retain any heat so in the cooler months you can
find your footsies getting chilly. Using an area rug in a large
room such as a living room can add a beautiful focal point to
the room and accentuate your hardwood floors even more. It will
also keep the floor warmer and cozier. Because there are so many
types of areas to choose from you won't have any problem finding
one that works. You can choose from Persian rugs, Oriental rugs,
Southwestern rugs, traditional styles or contemporary styles.
3. Focal Point
Use an area rug to create a focal point in your room. A family
room, rec room, games room, or living room are all excellent
candidates for a focal point area rug. If you have a games room
a rectangular rug beneath the pool table looks awesome. If you
have a fireplace an area rug in front of the fireplace adds
elegance and luxury and it's a comfy place to sit and enjoy the
fire. Now an area rug has another benefit. It will save wear and
tear on your carpet, especially if you place it in the high
traffic areas. Choose something that stands out from your room
decor or blends in. Your choice, let your creative juices flow.
4. Entrances
Most people think area rugs are too large for an entrance but
they are available in the smaller sizes. So whether you have a
grand entrance or a smaller entrance you should consider making
a decor statement where people enter. You could place a
beautiful oval braided rug at your entrance, or a bold
rectangular rug. Make it blend or stand out. Your choice. An
area rug at your entrance also has some function use as well.
The worst thing for your carpets is oil, dirt, and sand. Even a
clean pair of shoes will track particles onto the carpet. Using
an area
rug will help reduce what gets tracked because it will
act as a catcher. If you have a tiled or linoleum entrance it
will also keep it looking cleaner as the rug can pick up the
dirt or mud off of shoes and it's easily cleaner up with a
vacuum.
5. Cover Worn Carpet
We'll all face worn carpets at some point and lets face it
carpet replacement is a big investment that we can't all afford.
An affordable area rug is a perfect way to give your room an
entire new look and disguise that worn rug. Most rugs wear in
the middle of the room where they get the heavier traffic and
the outer foot or two often still look relatively new. So buy a
huge area rug that compliments the carpet already on the floor
leaving just the outer edge that's less worn exposed. You'll be
amazed at how different your room looks. Area rugs are also a
good way to hide a damaged or stained area of carpet.
6. Renter Choices
If you are renting you certainly don't want to spend your money
on carpets. Whether your carpets are worn or they just don't fit
your decor you can give your apartment a facelift for a minimal
amount of money. Then when you move you can roll up your area
carpet and take it with you to your new home. There's no point
in begging the landlord to change the carpets because unless
they are totally shot chances are you won't get your wish. And
even if you were willing to change them yourself your landlord
might not approve but you'll get no arguments about putting down
an area rug. In fact you don't even need permission. You can use
one or more area rugs throughout your apartment to add your own
personal touch and finish your home decor.
Area rugs are one of the most affordable and easiest ways to
give a room a makeover or add a style or accent to a room. You
can choose from round, oval, octagon, and square area rugs.
Choose Persian, Oriental, Southwestern, Native American, Indian,
Mexican, Traditional, Contemporary, or what ever other style you
want. Your choices are truly endless.
