Mesothelioma information refers to knowledge and facts related to mesothelioma cancers. Mesothelioma is a rare yet dangerous cancer of the liming of abdomen and lungs. When the cancer spreads in peritoneal membrane (lining of abdominal organs), it is known as peritoneal mesothelioma and the cancer of lining of lungs or pleural membrane is known as pleural mesothelioma. Symptoms and Diagnosis of Mesothelioma:
Mesothelioma information also refers to the information about the symptoms and diagnostic procedure of this fatal disease. Pain and swelling in abdomen, weakness, loss of weight, loss of appetite and nausea are some major symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma. Whereas the symptoms of pleural mesothelioma are persistent cough, difficulty in breathing, weight loss, loss of appetite, weakness, chest pains, lower back pains and difficulty in swallowing. Process of diagnosis involves X-ray, CT Scan, peritoneoscopy and bronchoscopy. If doctor finds any abnormality than she/he may suggest a biopsy. In biopsy, they send a tissue sample for pathological examination. After examining the tissue sample, an expert pathologist can confirm about the existence of disease.
Methods of Treatment:
Mesothelioma information also lets the patient know about the
treatment options available for mesothelioma cancers. Traditional treatment includes surgery. In surgery, the doctors remove the cancerous tumor. However, surgery is effective only in the early stage of disease. Chemotherapy and radiation therapy are some other options. Doctors also try gene therapy. In this treatment, they change the genetic structure of cells to counter the spread of cancerous cells.
