Both mesothelioma tests and new mesothelioma treatment has undergone a number of clinical trials over recent years. Experts and researchers have come a long way, with recent research into mesothelioma diagnostic tests and treatment producing some interesting results. Medical experts are always working hard to find a cure for malignant mesothelioma, a deadly cancer that is currently incurable.
However, advancements have been made with both tests and treatment for this disease. As well as discovering various treatment combinations that have managed to extend patients' lives by several months, researchers are also looking more closely into blood tests for mesothelioma. Early indications have suggested that protein levels in the blood could indicate the presence of mesothelioma cells, which could make a real impact where this disease is concerned.
This is because
mesothelioma is a cancer that is notoriously difficult to diagnose. Caused by exposure to asbestos, this cancer can affect the lungs (pleural mesothelioma), the abdomen (peritoneal mesothelioma), or the heart (pericardial mesothelioma). The disease has a very long latency period, and onset of symptoms can take several decades from exposure to asbestos. In addition to this, the symptoms of the disease can be very non-specific at first, which means that they can be commonly confused with other more common ailments.
