Are You Online To Earn Money Or Just To Have Fun?
"Are You Online To Earn Money Or Just To Have Fun?"
R.M. Blackledge ©Copyright 2005
Okay, you're online now and you've made a decision that you want to earn a few extra dollars just like the people do in all of those late-night infomercials.
Congratulations, you've just gone through the same basic decision-making process that thousands, if not millions, of home-based entrepreneurs have done before you.
Believe it or not, the manner in which this first fateful conclusion is arrived at often times determines whether or not each home-based business will succeed or fail. { at least, until the entrepreneur acquires a better understanding of the online business game, through painful trial and error. } Unfortunately, many people go online with a vague, undefined notion that they are going to earn some extra money for themselves, without really realizing, exactly what they've gotten themselves in to.
That kind of lack of focus can doom an online newbie before they even get started.
The first rule of online home-based entrepreneurship is that it is not a hobby. Okay, it can be a hobby if you want to put up a personal site, place a few banners ads, and maybe earn twenty or thirty dollars a month in commission, just as something fun to do. These individuals we are not addressing. Such persons regard being online as just fun, because their personal site is meant only to impress a few friends, and serve as a conversation piece. Or even as a convenient place to post some juicy gossip!
If you are online with the express intent of earning money, then you are an entrepreneur, not a hobbyist. You can never approach your online business as a hobby. This applies whether you're intent is to work at your online business full-time or part-time.
There are millions of commercial websites online now, and the internet is extremely competitive. In fact, the
commercial side of the internet is like a war-zone. Duck your head, or you might get hit by something.
It is well-nigh impossible to earn substantial money, say $300.00 dollars a month, and up, just stumbling along. All of those paid-to-surf deals and reading e-mails for pennies a mail, have been overexposed, and scandalized, such that people just don't believe in them anymore.
The thrill passed out of those types of online businesses a long time ago.
If you want to succeed as an online entrepreneur, you have to set goals for yourself. Write out a business plan, even if it's just a few short lines on a notepad. What is it that you want to accomplish? What kinds of businesses interest you?
Then you have to study, and read till your eyes ache. Learn all you can, from whatever sources that you can.
Most of all you must have determination and patience. Even the wealthiest online entrepreneurs { the so-called internet gurus } had to start from the same place everyone else had to start. -- The beginning.
You're going to make mistakes. So keep a positive attitude and refuse to let the temporary setbacks take you out of the game.
Finally, be proud of yourself. Because you're running an online business.
You're not a hobbyist who's going to settle for just a few extra bucks. You want the big cash. You deserve it.
