Web conferencing is commonly defined as a conference conducted through the internet between two or more participants in different locations. As a way to have meetings over the internet from anywhere and anytime, the participants in a web conferencing may use only a web browser and a plug in. However, text and video may also be applied to communicate in real time or in asynchronous environment. And, for groups of three or more locations, voice conferencing can be used with web conferencing.
In the first place, the definition of web conferencing with the continuous developments and changes done on the field of communications and technology is constantly changing as people see and experience the possibilities that web conferencing has to offer. In fact, today’s web conferencing solutions greatly offer far greater ease of use as well as of features then just a couple of years ago. The use of web conferencing and other collaboration tools are definitely evolving for almost 60%-70% every year. And, this growth, according to some experts, is even fuelling the demand of some new features on web conferencing.
The traditional practice of just connecting a web camera and a head set with the personal computer is now even transformed with the growing number of people who want to be able to not only present a presentation over the web but also share and exchange applications, remote control, perform dynamic file transfers, voice and keyboard chat, video conference with web conferencing, conduct user polls as well as quizzes, and much more.
