Making the Decision to Try Home Microdermabrasion
Do you have fine lines or small acne scars that you would like to see eliminated from your face? Have you considered microdermabrasion? Microdermabrasion is a safe and effective skin treatment that involves a deep exfoliation of the top layer of the skin to speed up the skin’s own renewal process. Many people experience great results. In the early days, the only way to experience microdermabrasion was to visit a salon with a professional on staff who specialized in the treatment. Nowadays, a lot of people are overwhelmed and stressed and have only a limited amount of “extra” time. Finding time in a busy schedule to visit a salon may prove challenging. For those people who are in this situation or similar and want to improve the condition of their skin, a home microdermabrasion kit may be the answer.
Another benefit of using home microdermabrasion is that it caters to a more private and schedule-free environment. You don’t have to worry about making an appointment. If you have time off from work or find yourself with no plans for the weekend, you can use the kit then. Also, some people are not comfortable showing their imperfections, especially if the part of the body that needs refining is on the back or some other location that requires you to disrobe. For sensitive areas you can have a spouse or friend do the treatment.
After microdermabrasion, some people experience redness, swelling, tightness, and peeling in their skin. Although these symptoms are minor, if you have multiple sessions (which is generally the case) you will need to apply a light moisturizer to the treated
area. A kit for home microdermabrasion generally contains a collection of gentle creams to prevent the skin from becoming irritated. When you go to a salon, you generally have to pay extra for these products.
Although home microdermabrasion and the salon version can both result in dramatic effects, you can use home microdermasion more often. This is a huge cost savings. In a salon the fee on average is about $200. This is the price you would pay for each session. (You can expect to pay more if you purchase the moisturizers.) Home microdermabrasion can cost as little as $30. If you require multiple sessions (and most people do), you can expect to pay as much as $1000 with a salon. The only additional costs you incur with home microdermabrasion are the costs associated with the crystals, application sponges, and moisturizer.
Home microdermasion is only recommended for skin with a healthy tone. If there is existing irritation you should check with a health professional to make sure that you can safely use home dermabrasion. In addition to making sure that your skin is healthy enough to undergo the treatment, you should read over all the instructions that accompanied your kit before you actually use home microdermabrasion. If you are at all concerned about whether home microdermabrasion is for you, schedule a consultation with a skin specialist for an evaluation of your skin. In some cases, a skin specialist may even discuss whether or not it is recommended that you use a home microdermabrasion kit.
