The Cult Of the Slender - Utterly Absurd!

HEALTH

Good in Your Skin

Invited by the Albertville Health Group, Christiane Beerlandt came from Ostend to explain at length the psychological and emotional origins of the most important diseases and symptoms that can strike us. She underlined the deeper meaning of earthly life and, especially, our self-healing powers.

One has never seen an elephant swinging by a frail liana, no more than a monkey dragging a heavy load! This image could summarize — a little irreverently, however — the words of Christiane Beerlandt. She wrote several books in the field of psychology, health, nutrition, philosophy, and wellness. “Not going against nature, being and staying yourself, stout or thin, always good in your skin.” Last Tuesday evening, at the “Val des Roses” Theater, Christiane Beerlandt spoke in her mother tongue, Dutch. Her words were faithfully translated by her husband, Dr. Dirk Lippens. Christiane Beerlandt is endowed with an extraordinary talent enabling her to consciously draw information from her deep source of wisdom. This is the case, among others, in one of her books, entitled “The Key to Self-Liberation — 1000 Diseases and their Psychological Origins,” which has become a standard reference work for laymen as well as for doctors. She does not base herself on any existing work or on external observation of diseases or sick persons.
“Happenings, phenomena, or diseases that occur in our lives don’t come up abruptly. They don’t happen by coincidence, they are not sent to us by some power or some god.” We have to look for the causes in ourselves. We attract everything ourselves, energetically. Every happening or phenomenon in our lives is the expression of something taking place on an underlying level: in our psyches, in our emotional lives, in the realm of our convictions and expectations. In this way, the human being creates his own life and the happenings in his life, good or bad. All this mostly takes place on an unconscious level; this explains the fact that most people say it “just” happens to them time and again. “In fact, we are not aware that everything is linked energetically, that the human being constantly creates his own reality in accordance with his expectations and psychological state. Therefore, we can look in ourselves to find the deeper causes of certain unpleasant things that happen to us, and undertake to solve them.”

The Cult of Slenderness: Utterly Absurd!
Fatalism will only play a role in our lives as long as we believe in it. According to the speaker, illnesses are like signals: “Always ask yourself ‘why,’ and then make the necessary adjustments on your path.” However, it’s the author’s opinion that there aren’t any specific techniques required to do this.
From the flu and the most

common headache to the most malignant cancer and hiv-aids, a large number of diseases and organs were analyzed: cholesterol, rheumatism, heart, liver, neck, shoulder. . . . As regards the current concepts about heredity and genetic determination, Christiane Beerlandt fiercely pronounces herself against them.
Another topic discussed was nutrition. “Just eat the foods you like, but you have to apply at the same time the symbolism of these foods in your daily life.” These days, one often condemns stout people while maintaining the cult of slenderness. “This is utterly absurd” according to Christiane Beerlandt, who doesn’t at all advise against the use of medicines or medical treatment. “It can be good for many people to resort to them during a certain stage of life; one needs to realize, however, that it’s necessary to work at the same time on the true healing of an ailment. This can be done by becoming aware of, and by solving, the fundamental cause, which is situated on a much deeper level than the purely physical or chemical.” As we said before, one needs to search in the emotional and psychological realm, in the world of one’s convictions, feelings, expectations, and self-image. “Why do I have this illness?” There are perhaps thousands of reasons. If one thoroughly looks for them, it’s possible to find them, to discover that link, and to work on solving them. Concentrating on these underlying reasons and solving them is certainly no easy work. In any case, it allows to have a more healthy relationship with one’s illness, to become aware. Illness is a signal, a warning light: watch out! There’s a bend! It’s up to us to negotiate it well.
