The Power Of The Word
The Word of God is the most powerful weapon He has given us against the devil. Learn just how powerful it is and how you can use it to be victorious in your life!
Sometimes I don’t think that we realize how powerful the word of God is. Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful…” The word of God is true, powerful, discerning, omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent, the beginning, the end, patient, merciful, victorious, love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, and so much more. How do I know that? Because John 1:1 says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” I know God. I’ve never doubted who God is, His power, His love, His grace, His excellence, His awesomeness…words would run out and we still wouldn’t be able to say all that God is. So we pray to God because we know that He is all these things and we know that if God doesn’t do it, if God doesn’t fix it, if God doesn’t provide it, then it won’t be done.
Did you know that when you gave your life to God and chose to believe that Jesus died for your sins and rose again, so that you could have eternal life, that God then gave you the POWER to do everything that Jesus did and more? John 14:12,13 says, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”
Why are we not getting results? Why do we sometimes ask in prayer, but never receive? First let’s take a look at Jesus’ life. We are to use Jesus life as an example. There are a few points I would like to make regarding Jesus’ life.
1. The reason Jesus gave for all that He did, was that the Father might be glorified. He didn’t do any of it for His own personal gain, but ONLY that God be glorified and all those who witnessed His miracles would believe in Jesus and that He was sent by God.
2. He recognized that He was sent here with a purpose. To do the will of His Father. Jesus never said, “I want,” “I don’t want,” “I think,” “why me,” or any of the things that we frequently say. He said, “not my will, but thy will be done,” in prayer about what He was about to endure on Calvary. Isaiah 53:12 says, “…he poured out his life unto death…” Yet, He never complained. That’s a person who recognizes that His life is not His own.
3. Jesus prayed regularly. He fasted and He prayed. He knew that the only way He could live according to the word of God and be obedient to it was out of relationship with God Life wasn’t easy, and He knew that He would need help to live it victoriously. He knew that His help would come from God. Did prayer, fasting and relationship with God work? Hebrews 4:15 says, “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are–yet was without sin.” We see here that it certainly did.
4. Jesus knew the POWER of the word of God. He quoted scriptures often. That meant that He spent time in the word of God. He not only read the word, but He committed it to memory. When Jesus was tempted by the devil in the wilderness, it was after a 40 day fast. So physically I’m sure He was weak. But, He wasn’t afraid; He didn’t get worried or upset, EVEN THOUGH the devil was “taking Him some places.” The devil is going to try every chance he gets to convince you that serving him is better. But Jesus knew better, because He knew the word. Jesus used the most POWERFUL weapon God has given us against the devil. THE WORD OF GOD! He quickly pulled out His sword (Ephesians 6:17), and began to swing. The devil knew he was no match against the word of God, so he left Jesus alone.
We have to understand the POWER of the word of God. We have to KNOW that the word of God is God so when you are speaking the word of God, you are speaking the POWER of God into your life and situation. Speaking the word brings life to it; thereby activating it’s POWER.
Isaiah 55: 10,11
10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring
forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:
11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
In verse 10, God uses natural things that we can easily understand, to make a spiritual point. He’s letting us know that just as sure as rain and snow comes down and doesn’t go back up, just as sure as it waters the earth, and causes that which is sown to bring forth, that is just how sure the word of God is. We know that we need water for our very existence. No living thing can live without water. Without it, we would die. Well, that’s just how bad we need the water of the WORD OF GOD. Without it, we would have no life.
Verse 11 begins by telling us that in this same manner, the word of God that we SPEAK is commanded to take place. It must come into existence and it is commanded not to return to its speaker (God) useless or of no effect. The following verses are a few (there are many) that show how God can speak using your mouth. John 15:5 “…He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing…” John 15:7 “If ye abide in me, and MY WORDS abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” The word that you SPEAK, puts into effect and fulfills God’s will concerning you. It attains the desired object or end that God ordered.
Let me share a bit of revelation that God gave me about the word of God. Revelation 19:11-15 says, “And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. And the armies, which were in heaven, followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations…”
1. The WORD OF GOD is faithful and true. (v11) If God said it, it will surely come pass!
2. The armies, which were in heaven, followed THE WORD OF GOD. (v14) When the devil is at your heels, what more do you need than heavenly armies coming to your defense?
3. When THE WORD OF GOD is spoken, it is POWERFUL enough to smite the nations. (v15) There is no way you can be defeated when you are using the weapon of the word!
THE WORD OF GOD IS POWERFUL AND GETS RESULTS! DON’T JUST READ IT, BUT MEMORIZE IT, LIVE IT, WALK IT, BREATH IT, KNOW IT, PRAY IT AND SAY (ACTIVATE) IT!
